David Kempton, Member for Cook, is proud to announce that the Crisafulli Government’s 2025-26 Budget is delivering historic support for Queensland’s Show Societies, like the Mossman and District Show Society, through a permanent funding uplift for Queensland’s agricultural shows.
“The first annual Mossman Show was held in 1952, and more than 70 years later it’s still bringing the community together and highlighting the local agricultural industry,” Mr Kempton said.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to be here today with my team, and spend time with the community hearing about their needs and what matters to them the most.”
“There’s nothing quite like seeing families come together, friends reconnecting, and the joy on children’s faces as they take in the magic of this much-loved annual event.”
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy said this support was a perfect example of how the Crisafulli Government was delivering for rural and regional Queensland.
“Like so many Queenslanders, I know firsthand how important Ag Shows are for local communities, and this support is well overdue,” Minister Leahy said.
“Queenslanders mark Ag Shows in their calendars months in advance, and I’m glad to ensure this tradition can continue for generations to come.”
Queensland Ag Show President David Wilson welcomed the support from the Crisafulli Government.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Queensland Government for this significant funding commitment,” Mr Wilson said.
Queensland’s agricultural shows will receive an additional $3,846 on top of their historical annual allocation, ensuring regional agricultural shows can reverse years of Labor’s neglect and thrive well into the future.
“The importance of agricultural shows to Queensland’s communities cannot be overstated. They provide a space for community engagement, foster local economies, and support the agricultural sector. This funding will go a long way in helping shows maintain their viability and continue to provide these valuable services.”
The 2025-26 Budget is delivering a permanent $500,000 funding boost to the Show Societies Grants Program, supporting each of Queensland’s 129 Show Societies.
The support also provides funding for an investigation into the economic factors impacting Queensland’s shows.
