The Crisafulli Government has introduced a major expansion of its landmark Adult Crime, Adult Time legislation, fulfilling a key election commitment to crack down on serious youth offenders and restore community safety. 

An additional 20 serious offences will now be included under the Adult Crime, Adult Time laws, bringing the total to 33. The expanded offences include: 

• Attempted murder 

• Rape and attempted rape 

• Torture 

• Aggravated attempted robbery 

• Trafficking in dangerous drugs 

• Kidnapping 

• Arson 

• Ramming a police vehicle while driving 

These new offences follow recommendations from the Expert Legal Panel, which the Crisafulli Government established to guide the next phase of tougher youth crime laws. 

David Kempton MP said the expanded laws are critical in holding serious youth offenders accountable. 

“This week, we’ve brought in the electronic monitoring system, which means young offenders can be fitted with a monitoring device, so we know where they are and what they are up to,” Mr Kempton said.  

Since the introduction of Adult Crime, Adult Time, early police data shows a decline in key offences such as stolen cars, robberies, and break-ins between December and February compared to last year. 

“We’ve resourced the police in Cook, and every police station will be fully manned by the end of May.” 

This week, the Crisafulli Government also introduced significant amendments in Parliament to make Jack’s Law permanent, which would have been Jack Beasley’s 23rd birthday on 2.4.25.  

The reform gives frontline police the powers they need to continue to crack down on knife crime – which spiralled out of control under Labor – by making intelligence-based decisions to target hotspots.   

Since Jack’s Law was introduced, more than 100,000 scans have been conducted, and more than 2,804 people charged with 1,058 weapons have been taken off the streets.   

“We are extending Jack’s law indefinitely in relation to wanding for knives.” 

The Wacol centre has opened and includes more beds, alongside several internal and open-air exercise yards. 

The new 76-bed facility features state-of-the-art security management systems as well as access to education and vocational training, rehabilitation programs, health care and support services.  

The former Labor Government created the Youth Crime Crisis and then failed to build the critical infrastructure needed to deal with the skyrocketing number of young offenders.  

“We’ve opened the Wacol Youth Detention Centre and Remand Centre for another 76 places.” 

“We’ve implemented the legislation; it’s now enacted, and the magistrates and judges are responding.”

We have also seen the biggest intake of police officers in recent history claims Kempton saying all the police stations in the electorate of Cook bar one are now fully manned.
